Predictive Maintenance Services

BRI, Inc. is fully certified and trained to provide industrial manufacturing and municipal facilities with Predictive Maintenance Services.  These services include:

vibration monitoring and analysis
thermography
airborne ultrasound
oil analysis
field dynamic balancing
laser alignment

1. Vibration Monitoring and Analysis

BRI employs a Level III and a Level I vibration analysts certified through the Technical Associates of Charlotte and ASNT
Our Level III analyst has been working with vibration since 1993
Use CSI Model 2130-2 channel meter and we currently have CSI RBMware version 5.1 Machinery Health Manager program, the latest version. Vibration Analysis can detect the following conditions in rotating machines:

1. Unbalance in rotating parts
2.  Misalignment of couplings, bearings and gears
3. Bent shafts
4. Worn, eccentric or damaged gears
5. Bad drive belts, drive trains, eccentric sheaves or pulleys
6. Bad bearings, sleeve or anti-friction
7. Looseness
8.  Resonance
9.  Blade passing recirculation
10. Electromagnetic forces in motor rotor or stator
11. Aerodynamic forces in fans and blowers
Major benefits of Vibration Analysis include:
1.  Decrease in equipment repair costs due to the detection of a problem before catastrophic repair occurs thus lowering cost of parts and labor
2.  Increased production availability (increases revenues)
3. Increased product quality
4.  Design and purchase negotiation
5.  Worker safety improvements
2. Thermography

BRI employs a Level III and a Level I thermographer as certified through ASNT.
Member, International Association of Certified Thermographers
    ITC/BSI Certified Building Science Thermographer
BRI uses the FLIR Systems High Definition Thermacam SC-640 camera.  This camera can measure accurate temperatures from -40  to 2,732 degrees F.
Uses Thermacam Researcher software to record real time events for in depth analysis
Uses the latest in reporting software from FLIR Systems, Reporter 8.2 Pro
Uses FLIR Image Builder software to merge multiple IR pictures for increased analysis
Infrared Thermography can detect a differential temperature in any kind of mechanical or electrical system.  Examples include a hot bearing, loose or defective fuses or breakers, tank levels and missing or damaged refractory brick.  The thermographer can maintain a safe distance and conduct complete, detailed inspections safely and in a fraction of the time.

3. Airborne Ultrasound
BRI , Inc. uses the UE Systems UE 3000 airborne ultrasound unit.  This highly portable unit is the ideal accompaniment for any field inspection.  Bearings may be analyzed while on a Vibration walkthrough.  Ultrasound can also allow you to inspect an Electrical bucket before opening to listen for arcing to possibly avoid arc flash.
Airborne ultrasound is used to detect problems such as destructive corona or arcing in electrical systems, steam, air or gas leaks and is also used as a second detection means when performing electrical inspections using Thermography.
4. Oil Analysis
BRI offers a full service oil analysis program.  Oil is sampled and analyzed to detect contamination or chemical makeup.  Samples are charted and trend analysis can detect a problem before equipment failure occurs.
5. Field Dynamic Balancing
BRI uses  Schenck Vibrotest 60 meters which are used to detect vibration due to imbalance.  BRI service technicians have been trained to use our in-house Schenck dynamic balancing machines and the portable Vib60 meters allow us to balances rotating equipment in the field eliminating in and out costs and also allowing the service technician to balance the equipment as installed.
6. Laser Alignment
Whether in house or during service calls in the field, BRI service technicians use SKF laser alignment tools to insure angular and parallel alignment of rotating equipment.
BRI uses a laser alignment tool manufactured by Gates to align V-belts.
Proper alignment of rotating equipment helps to reduce failures and contributes to MTBF extension.  Without proper alignment equipment will prematurely fail causing unnecessary maintenance expense and potential lost production time.
